SGOA implements WASH programmes to improve health, dignity, and quality of life in underserved and remote communities in Afghanistan.
Access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene is essential for breaking the cycle of poverty and supporting the rehabilitation of vulnerable groups across our provinces.
Overview
Millions of people in Afghanistan lack access to safe water and adequate sanitation. Inadequate facilities, social and cultural barriers, and displacement increase the risk of disease and undermine health and education outcomes. SGOA works with UNDP, UN Women, and other donors to deliver WASH interventions in schools, health facilities, and displacement settings.
Our WASH work supports SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and reduces disease, improves school attendance, and strengthens community resilience in Kandahar, Kabul, Faryab, Bamyan, Takhar, Baghlan, and Balkh.
SGOA's Response
Our WASH work includes safe water supply, latrine construction and rehabilitation, hygiene promotion, and behaviour change campaigns. We prioritise schools, health facilities, and displacement settings (IDPs, returnees) in partnership with UNDP, UN Women, and other donors.
- Safe water points and small-scale water systems in remote areas
- Construction and rehabilitation of sanitation facilities (latrines, handwashing stations)
- Hygiene promotion and community awareness sessions
- WASH in schools and health facilities for sustainable impact
