Education

SGOA designs and supports education programmes that meet the needs of children and adolescents in crisis-affected and underserved communities in Afghanistan.

Our support ensures that girls and boys—including those with disabilities—thrive in their learning environment on an equal basis with others.

Overview

SGOA delivers education programmes that break the cycle of poverty and support the rehabilitation and socioeconomic integration of vulnerable groups. We work with the Ministry of Education, local authorities, and partners such as UNDP and UN Women to reach children and communities in remote areas across Afghanistan.

Many children and adolescents still face barriers to quality education, including inadequate facilities, social and cultural barriers, and limited access in displacement and remote settings. SGOA focuses on addressing these challenges through community-based education, teacher training, and safe learning spaces.

SGOA's Response

Our education work focuses on access to quality learning, teacher training, literacy, and safe learning environments—especially for girls, disabled learners, returnees, and IDPs. We align our activities with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education) and support community-based education where formal schools are limited.

  • Teacher training and capacity building with the Ministry of Education
  • Community-based education and literacy programmes in Kandahar, Bamyan, and other provinces
  • Safe, accessible learning spaces for vulnerable and disabled learners
  • Educational materials and ongoing support for educators

Together with UNDP, UN Women, and local partners, SGOA reaches beneficiaries in Kandahar, Kabul, Faryab, Bamyan, Takhar, Baghlan, and Balkh.
