How Are We Held
Accountable !?

Accountability

Promoting Transparency and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP)

Introduction Promoting transparency through information sharing and ensuring accountability to affected populations (AAP) are integral components of SGOA’s commitment to delivering the best possible service. Recognizing the shift from accountability primarily towards donors to also being accountable to the people we assist, SGOA embraces a mindset change, viewing affected individuals as essential partners and stakeholders, not merely beneficiaries.
Definition of AAP AAP at SGOA represents an active commitment to give account to, take account of, and be held to account by the people we assist. It is a fundamental shift towards recognizing the right of affected people to actively participate in decisions that impact their lives.
Principles of AAP at SGOA
Right to Participation
Affected people have the right to be actively involved in decisions that influence their lives. AAP at SGOA is founded on the principle of rights-based programming, acknowledging the importance of ensuring that programs align with the needs and aspirations of those we serve.
Enhancing Program Effectiveness:
Engaging affected populations in decision-making processes enhances the effectiveness of our assistance. By basing programs on the views and insights of those directly impacted, SGOA ensures that needs are accurately identified, understood, and addressed in a manner appropriate to the local context. This active engagement also serves as an early warning system, helping to identify and address challenges in program implementation.
Complaints and feedback mechanisms (CFMs)
Be held to account – providing platforms to receive complaints and feedback
Key Components of AAP at SGOA
Information Provision
SGOA is committed to providing comprehensive and transparent information about its programs, operations, and decision-making processes to the affected populations. Transparent communication ensures that those we assist are well-informed about the assistance provided, fostering trust and understanding.
Consultation
Taking account of the perspectives of affected people is crucial to the success of our programs. SGOA actively consults with the communities it serves during program design and implementation phases. Community consultations enable us to incorporate local insights, ensuring that interventions are culturally sensitive and responsive to the unique needs of each community.
Complaints and feedback mechanisms (CFMs)
SGOA provides accessible platforms for affected populations to voice complaints, concerns, and feedback. By establishing CFMs, SGOA creates a responsive feedback loop, allowing for real-time adjustments to programs based on community input. This mechanism ensures that accountability is not just a concept but a practical and ongoing commitment.
